The Blue Heart Art Project: Art with a Purpose

Alright, here’s the deal—this blog post might be the written version of The Buckle game (and if you don’t know what that is, no worries—just consider yourself fortunate for not having that memory or feeling really old right now!) Without diving down one of my infamous Janell bunny trails, let’s just say it might come off a little sales-pitchy... BUT, before you click away, hear me out. This is me doing my best to share why I’m so passionate about art—and not just any art, but resistant art. Art that makes you feel—art that calls to you in a way that’s collaborative and uplifts individuals, communities, and voices that need to be heard. Keep reading to understand why we care so much and what we’re doing to make a difference. And remember - we can't do everything, but we will do what we can, when we can, then, we rest when needed before we get back to the fight.

We believe art is more than aesthetics and museum quality skill (though that helps) —it’s a form of deep expression, activism, and change. The Blue Heart Art Project was born from creating art to help manage a plethora of emotions like confusion, rage, and disappointment, turning that frustration into something tangible. Art gives us a way to process and share our feelings, making it a powerful tool for connection, conversation, and action.

We didn’t want to not share the pieces or just sell them to make a profit.  We needed to do something more.  So, with every purchase from this collection, 50% of proceeds are donated to organizations that align with causes we care about—civil rights, LGBTQ+ equality, veterans' well-being, and reproductive healthcare. It means that you’re not just buying art; you’re supporting movements that make a difference. When you make a purchase, you can choose which organization most aligns with your values!

Art as a Force for Change

The Blue Heart Art Project isn’t just a statement—it’s a call to action. Art challenges oppression, sparks conversations, and demands justice. As Toni Cade Bambara said, “The role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible.” Through this project, we channel our creativity to fight for equality and human rights.

While our military service may be over, we continue the fight through our voices, experiences, and art. Each piece in this collection is a reminder that art has the power to transform society and inspire change.

When you buy from the Blue Heart Art Project, you’re standing with us for a better world. You’re amplifying voices, supporting real change, and showing that art can shape the future.

With love, light, and little kick of motivation,

Janell & Adam
